Announcing Dr. Reza Keshavarz Afshar as the new Research and Extension Agronomist at WCRC

April 17, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Reza Keshavarz Afshar has accepted the position of Research and Extension Agronomist at the Western Colorado Research Center located in Fruita. Dr. Keshavarz is completing his postdoctoral work at the Eastern Agricultural Research Center at Montana State University and has both a doctorate and master of science in agronomy, both from the University of Tehran, Iran.

Dr. Keshavarz’s research focuses on improving agricultural sustainability, with an emphasis on water and soil conservation, as well as increasing the viability of agricultural systems through adaptation and mitigation strategies that improve the resiliency and sustainability of farming systems (both irrigated and dryland) in water limited regions. He has published more than 20 articles in peer reviewed journals and is a member of the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America, and the Association for the Advancement of Industrial Crops.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Reagan Waskom who chaired the search committee as well as the members of the committee who worked so diligently and thoughtfully to bring Dr. Keshavarz and the other candidates to campus. I am delighted to be able to welcome Dr. Keshavarz to our Ag Family, and please take a moment to welcome him personally after he arrives in October.

Cheers,

Gene
