Food Insecurity

Community Alliance for Education and Hunger Relief
The CSU Agriculture Experiment Station is committed to partnering with local community efforts to address food insecurity. The Western Colorado Research Center has established the Community Alliance for Education and Hunger Relief, which increases the amount of high-quality fruit and vegetables available to foodbanks in Mesa County and across Colorado. All of the surplus orchard fruit from the Orchard Mesa and Rogers Mesa Stations is harvested by volunteers and donated to hunger relief organizations. In addition, we grow vegetables at the Orchard Mesa and Grand Valley Stations for distribution to schools and hunger relief organizations in Western Colorado. In support of this work, we offer hands-on service learning for K-12 students and learners of all ages in local agriculture, food systems, nutrition and food insecurity.
